2026:272 - Tober Upper Manowar, Wicklow

Archaeological test trenching was undertaken at Tober Upper and Manofwar, near Dunlavin, Co. Wicklow, on 1 September 2026 under Excavation Licence 26E0819. The investigation comprised seven test trenches excavated across pastureland in order to assess the archaeological potential of the site and to investigate anomalies previously identified by geophysical survey.

The trenches exposed topsoil overlying natural sandy and silty clay subsoil, with localised variations including gravel, pale clay and iron panning. Traces of former agricultural activity were also noted. Two geophysical anomalies, including a possible ring-ditch response, were investigated and were demonstrated to be geological in origin. No features, deposits or objects of archaeological significance were identified in any of the trenches.
