Archaeological monitoring was undertaken during the excavation of a section of pipe trench for the installation of a new 250mm OD HDPE water main between two existing connection points at Holycross and Killough Reservoir, Co. Tipperary. The proposed scheme comprises a connection to the existing 250mm ductile iron water main at Holycross, terminating at the existing 225mm pumped water main serving Killough Reservoir.
As part of the route passed through the Zone of Notification for Ringfort (RMP TN047-055), archaeological monitoring of all ground disturbance within this area was recommended.
Archaeological monitoring was undertaken over two days in June 2026 during the excavation of the pipeline trench. No archaeological features, deposits or artefacts were identified within the monitored section of trench, and the works were completed without any impact on the archaeological resource.
