This test excavation was undertaken on 23 April 2026 in the townland of Murrens, Co. Meath, c.6 km to the south-west of the town of Oldcastle, and west of the R195 road.
Five trenches measuring a total of c. 1125 linear meters were excavated across the northern, deforested portion of the site; no archaeological finds or features were exposed. The southern third of the site remains forested and thus remains untested. The topsoil comprised disturbed humic silty clay of varying depths. The subsoil comprised a dark greyish brown silty clay overlying shallow limestone outcrops.
Nothing of archaeological significance was recorded.
