Archaeological test trenching was carried out at the pre-planning stage at the request of the client, prior to groundworks for the construction of a supermarket. A total of eight test trenches were excavated to natural.
Modern disturbance was noted in Trenches 2, 3, 5, 6, 7, and 8. This was noted as modern deposits filled with modern glass, ceramic sherds, concrete and occasionally fragments of animal bone. In one trench (Trench 8) geotextile membrane material was identified covering natural subsoil.
No archaeological features were identified during test trenching.
