Test excavations were carried out over one day in February 2026 at a site located at Trim Road/Reask Road, Navan, Co. Meath. The site was formerly a greyhound racetrack up until the 1990s. It has been a brownfield since then, with some evidence of disturbance from surrounding developments visible in aerial imagery. Four trenches were excavated, with a total linear length of 221.5m.

The topsoil ranged in depth from 0.3m in the eastern part of the site to 0.6m in the western part. The natural was a mix of a compact, light-to-mid-yellowish-grey sandy clay, a mid-greyish-brown boulder clay, and a light-to-mid-orangish-brown boulder clay.

Overall, the trenches revealed evidence of modern disturbance on the site. Two of the trenches in the eastern part of the site contained nearly 1m of made-up ground above the natural. Modern ceramic, brick, plastic and electrical cables were found in this made-up ground.

No archaeological features or artefacts were found in any of the trenches.
