An archaeological assessment was carried out on a site located at Ballycummin, Co. Limerick. The site is adjacent to the Water Treatment Plant, on land to the north of M20 and south of the former railway line, with the cable route proposed within the existing internal roads as well as Pearce Road and Loughmore and Roche’s Avenues to connect with the main Elli Lilly Facility.

The site contains no monuments as listed in the Record of Monuments and Places (RMP) or Sites and Monuments Record (SMR). The nearest monument to the site is a fulacht fia (LI013-183-). There are no Protected Structures as listed in the Limerick City and County Development Plan 2022-2028 or sites listed in the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage (NIAH) located within the site.

A total of six trenches were excavated.  One in Field 1 (Trench 1), three (Trenches 2-4) in Field 2 and two in Field 3 (Trenches 5-6), though much of Field 3 could not be tested due to dense immature woodland. The sod and topsoil measured an average of 0.2m in depth and lay above the natural marly clay and stone. No archaeological features or deposits were exposed or identified in the areas that were archaeologically assessed.
