The archaeological monitoring of groundworks was undertaken for Uisce Éireann’s Water Network Programme in Newtownmanor, Co. Leitrim. The scheme involved the installation of 1,144m of rehabilitated water mains along the existing road (L4153).
The monitoring followed a high-level Cultural Heritage Screening Report (CHSR) undertaken for the scheme by Archaeological Management Solutions (AMS). The CHSR found that the scheme would impact the Zone of Notification for one Recorded Monument, a ringfort – cashel (LE011044—-).
The archaeological monitoring of a section of continuous open-cut trench totalling c.170m where the scheme traversed the RMP constraints zone for ringfort – cashel and
20m on each side was carried out on 28 August and 2 September 2025. No potential archaeological objects, features or deposits were found during the monitoring of
the scheme route.
