Monitoring was carried out in compliance with the archaeological condition provided for in the grant of planning. Construction of Phase 1 of the strategic housing development at Oldtown to the south-east and south-west of the site has already been completed.
Monitoring was carried out on 7, 12 and 14 January 2026. The creation of a Phase 2 compound in the field across the north-west half of the Phase 2 redline boundary was initially monitored, followed by monitored topsoil stripping in the field across the south-east half of the Phase 2 footprint. The latter had been used as a site compound area for the Phase 1 part of the development where topsoil stripping was previously monitored under licence 19E0438. The north-west half of the Phase 2 footprint has been reserved for a future school building and topsoil stripping was not carried out in this area.
No archaeological features of deposits were identified during the works.
