The work entailed monitoring the excavation of a trench from the existing ESB pole to connect to an existing premises on Northgate Street, Athenry.

The connection required the excavation of a north-south orientated trench 6m in length and an east-west trench 9m in length. The stratigraphy of the north-south trench consisted of a concrete surface 0.1-0.15m deep over a loose sandy stone fill to 0.65m where an existing service pipe was located. The stratigraphy of the east-west trench consisted of a concrete surface 0.1-0.15m deep over a light brown sandy clay with occasional stone inclusions. No finds or features of archaeological significance were encountered in the course of monitoring.
