2026:244 - Mawbeg East, Enniskean, Cork

Archaeological test trenching at Mawbeg East, Enniskean, County Cork was undertaken in relation to a quarry extension. Seventeen trenches were excavated in total. The locations of test trenches were guided by a geophysical survey. A total of 10 pits (C013, C019, C021, C023, C025, C027, C029, C031, C033 and C035) and an irregular-shaped feature (C037) were uncovered, along with linear features likely to be agricultural in nature.

All test trenches were metal detected before excavation and the spoil heaps of each trench were metal detected again after excavation due to the proximity of military camp CO109-098 to the proposed development site. A total of four finds were retrieved using the metal detector, three of these were from the topsoil and one was from linear feature C041, T.2. All of these finds were modern.
