Licensed archaeological monitoring was undertaken at Gibbings Grove House, Maine South, Co. Cork. The monitoring was carried out in relation to the excavation of percolation test holes within the grounds of a late 18th-/19th-century country house.
Gibbings Grove House is a Recorded Monument (CO002-068) and is also listed in the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage (NIAH) under Reg. No. 20900210. The associated outbuildings, located immediately to the south, are recorded under Reg. No. 20900216.
A planning application was prepared in respect of proposed works at the site. As part of this process, percolation testing was required, involving the excavation of a number of trial holes within the Zone of Notification for the Recorded Monument (CO002-068). A total of five test holes were excavated under archaeological supervision. No features, deposits, or artefacts of archaeological significance were identified during the course of monitoring.
