A test excavation was carried out on a site at Lisasturrin, Kingscourt, Co. Cavan. The site consisted of part of a private garden and a small, rough pasture field. Nine test trenches were excavated across the site with a sum total length of 172m.
The topsoil on the site had an average depth of between 0.3m to 0.4m. The natural was mainly a compact boulder clay with frequent angular stones. It ranged in colour from light to mid-brownish grey to a mid-orangish brown.
An active water pipe was found running roughly north to south in the area of Trenches 2, 4, 6 and 5. It was buried at a shallow depth within the topsoil. The remains of a tree bole were found in Trench 4. In Trench 9, located in the private garden of a house, the overgrown remains of a gravel garden path were found running diagonally across the trench.
No archaeological features or artefacts were uncovered during the test excavation.
