Archaeological testing was undertaken prior to a proposed Access Road Link scheme, located at Bollarney North. The assessment was carried out in September 2025.
A total of nine trenches were excavated across the site measuring 270 linear metres. All the trenches measured 30m in length, were orientated east ΜΆ west and targeted open green space. The location of Trench 2 fell slightly within the exclusion zone for overhead powerlines. Consequently, the trench was repositioned several meters to the east.
Archaeological testing did not reveal any evidence of archaeological features or deposits. Evidence of modern land improvement works in the form of field drains was identified. Two large pits were recorded in the central portion of the site likely associated with brick production works in the local area from the late 19th to early 20th centuries. These were utilized for the extraction of the underlying marl clay for local brick production and were later deliberately backfilled after becoming redundant in use.
