An Archaeological Impact Assessment including test trenching was carried out in advance of the proposed development of a stud farm and private dressage stables at Ballymoat, Glenealy, County Wicklow.

A geophysical survey covering approximately 4.6 hectares was undertaken by Ger Dowling under Licence 25R0047, employing high-resolution magnetic gradiometry. While no features of clear archaeological potential were identified, the survey did reveal a possible curving ditch along with narrow ditches/drains and several pits or spreads of uncertain origin. To assess these anomalies, as well as other areas across the site, a total of 745 metres of test trenches were excavated on 3 and 4 June 2025.

No recorded archaeological sites or monuments are located within the development area. The nearest known sites are two fulachtaí fia (W1025 041 and W1025 042), approximately 240–280m away, each characterized by spreads of burnt sandstone and charcoal. Also nearby is an ecclesiastical enclosure and graveyard in Glenealy, situated roughly 660m to the southwest of the proposed development.

No artefacts or features of archaeological significance were uncovered during the excavation of the test trenches.
