Archaeological monitoring was completed in advance of a development at Ballygannon, Rathdrum, Co. Wicklow. The site lies in the environs of a former Union workhouse and fever hospital demolished in the 1970s, and within the grounds of the present day St Colman’s Hospital. The site was covered with a deep (average depth 1m) overburden of rubble including granite blocks, mortar, metal, glass, ceramics and general waste, likely derived from the demolition of the workhouse. This overlay the former topsoil horizon below which was natural subsoil. No archaeological features were encountered.
