Archaeological monitoring of ground works at 7 Castle Villas was undertaken on the 22nd February 2025 . The development site lies within the constraints of Recorded Monument WI013-005, a 16th/17th-century house. The stratigraphy comprised sod 0.10min depth, below this was topsoil a dark brown silty clay with root inclusions and modern debris. The topsoil ranged in depth from 0.85m in depth to 0.45m. It was shallowest at the northern end of the cutting and the ground appeared to have been cut away at the southern end where the existing garage is located. The natural ground was a mid-yellowish brown silty clay and no finds or features of archaeological significance were exposed in the cutting.
