Archaeological test excavations took place at a greenfield site at Pearsonsbrook, Glasson, Co. Westmeath in fulfilment of a condition of planning. The development site was located along the southern boundary of a pasture field with the remains of an upstanding ringfort located along the northern field boundary. The field has been subject to a geophysical survey under licence no. 25E0302. No geophysical anomalies of probable or possible archaeological origin were recorded within the development footprint. Two trenches were excavated with a 7-tonne mechanical excavator fitted with a 1.5m-wide grading bucket under constant archaeological supervision. Trenches were excavated to a depth of 0.2-0.4m to expose the underlying subsoil. No features, finds or deposits of archaeological significance were identified during the course of testing.
