It is proposed to apply for full planning permission for a development consisting of the construction of a domestic dwelling, access services and all associated ground works and landscaping on a green field site in Lecarrow, Strandhill, Co. Sligo. In response to the application the Development Applications Unit of the Dept of Housing, Local Government and Heritage (DHLGH) noted that the proposed development site is close to the zone of archaeological potential established around SL014-076—- (Knocknarea archaeological complex) and SL014-081—- ( Ringfort – Rath) and requested an archaeological impact assessment be undertaken. This took the form of the machine excavation of four test trenches to cover the footprint of the building and percolation area, and an additional two trenches to cover the septic tank pipe line and access road. Works took place on 25 August 2025. Nothing of archaeological interest was uncovered in any of the test trenches.
