In response to a planning application for full planning permission for a development consisting of the following: (a) build a single-storey extension to the north-west side of the existing dwelling house, (b) make a design alteration to the front elevation of the existing dwelling house (c) upgrade the existing entrance to the dwelling house, together with all ancillary site works and services, the planners stated that, given the proximity of the proposed development to SL020-044 (Rath), whereby the buffer zone for protection extends to the siting of the proposed extension, the developer is to carry out and submit the findings of an Archaeological Impact Assessment (AIA), to be carried out under Licence to National Monuments Service.
The site was tested on 14 April 2025. The two test trenches excavated around the footprint of the proposed extension to the north of the house revealed some disturbance associated with the construction of the original garage but otherwise undisturbed natural subsoil, with nothing of archaeological interest coming to light. The archaeological testing in advance of the engineering works in the area of the potential site of the new percolation area, to the southeast of the house, similarly revealed nothing of archaeological interest, with the test trenches suggesting that the area had been used as a dumping ground of excess material following the construction of the original house.
