It is proposed to construct a single residence with detached garage at a site in Tonvey, Ballydangan, Co. Roscommon.

There are no previously identified archaeological monuments located within the extent of the proposed development site and no surface features of potential interest were noted by a cartographic research, review of aerial photography/satellite imagery or by a surface reconnaissance survey.

The south-western extent of the site is located outside the SMR Zone of Notification established with respect to a souterrain (SMR No: RO054-050); this monument is located within a graveyard to the south of the proposed development site and was discovered during a programme of test trenching undertaken by Diarmuid Lavelle (Excavations, 1994:202) in advance of an extension of the graveyard.

A programme of site specific Archaeological Testing was undertaken in part preparation of Archaeological Impact Assessment Report, requested by the Planning Authority (Item 4 of the FI Request). A total of seven trenches, of varying lengths and orientations, were excavated across the site, the locations of which were generally reflective of the subject development proposals; no subsurface features of archaeological interest or potential were uncovered and no artefacts of archaeological or historical interest were recovered.
