2025:301 - Teevnacreeva, Roscommon

An application was made for full planning permission for development works at Teevnacreeva, Tibohine, Castlerea, Co Roscommon, F45 FK29. The proposed development site was partly within the zone of archaeological potential established around Recorded Monuments RO014-019—- (Ringfort – rath) and RO014-020—- (Ringfort – rath) and as such a phase of pre-development archaeological assessment was required. The insertion of the percolation area could have had a negative impact on any subsoil archaeological deposits which might have survived within this area of the site.

Archaeological testing in the form of two machine-dug test trenches was carried out on 10 March 2025. An area measuring a maximum of 32m north-south by 15m was tested. In both cases the removal of the topsoil exposed the underlying compact glacial till with no evidence of anything of archaeological interest.
