A total of 21 test trenches were excavated. Each trench measured 1.8m in width. The test trenches were set out targeting field boundary ditches and anomalies identified by a geophysical survey (24R0185) conducted by Donald Murphy in 2024. The topsoil was a brown, silty clay. The natural varied from a mottled light grey and orange clay to an orange clay. The field boundary ditches, identified by the geophysical survey,
were recorded in Trenches 8, 9, 10 and 24. Furrows, tree roots and pockets of topsoil were also noted in the trenches.
No archaeological features or deposits were observed or exposed within the trenches; therefore, the proposed development will have no impact on archaeological features.
