The site is located immediately north and east of, and very close to Recorded Monument MO018-042—- : Ringfort – rath : LISGORRAN.

Four trenches were excavated in advance of the renovation and extension of an old stone dwelling.

In Trenches 1, 2 & 3, which were closest to the monument and the existing building, there was virtually no topsoil, angular broken stone comprised the fill, occurring 0.08m below ground surface.

Trench 4 was located in a small enclosure south of the dwelling-house. It had a general depth of 0.55m, and contained the following soil profile:

– 0.28m of sod and dark-brown silty clay topsoil;

– 0.3m of light brown silt –

– 0.2m of light brown reddish clay subsoil.

No material of an archaeological nature, finds or features were observed in any of the trenches.
