The site was subject to archaeological assessment. This included geophysical survey (25R0102; Murphy 2025) and test trenching carried by Linda Clarke. The geophysical survey identified the presence of a potential archaeological feature, Anomaly M1, tentatively interpreted as a possible ring ditch, as well as scatters of anomalies of archaeological potential, former field boundaries and linear anomalies not depicted on the examined mapping. Test trenching was recommended.
Subsequently, thirty-one test trenches were excavated targeting anomalies identified. Each trench measures 1.8m in width and in total 711 linear meters were excavated
across the site. Archaeological activity consisting of a small, ploughed-out burnt mound/spread, C4, measuring 3m by 3m, was identified in Trenches 14 and 14a excavated in Field 2. No other features of archaeological significance were
exposed, however, agricultural furrows, stone-filled drains, and remains of a former field boundary depicted on the Ordnance Survey map were recorded. The natural exposed was a mix of compact, mid-bluish grey and orangish-brown boulder clay and compact, mid-greyish brown silt clay.
