Excavation at Mullenmore North 5 (MN5) was undertaken as part of the River Deel (Crossmolina) Flood Relief Scheme, Archaeological Consultancy Services Contract. The excavation was carried out on behalf of, and funded by, the Office of Public Works.

The excavated features at MN5 comprised of one pit, two spreads of washed-out burnt mound material, one field drain and a plough furrow. It is expected that the burnt mound activity will be prehistoric in date, between the Late Neolithic and Iron Age, and that the drain and furrow are post-medieval/early modern. Radiocarbon dating of select samples will aid in determining the date range for the activity.
