Excavation at Mullenmore North 3 was undertaken as part of the River Deel (Crossmolina) Flood Relief Scheme, Archaeological Consultancy Services Contract. The excavation was carried out on behalf of, and funded by, the Office of Public Works.

The excavation was undertaken in two areas, Mullenmore North 3A (MN3A) and Mullenmore North 3B (MN3B). The excavated features at MN3A comprised of pits, burnt deposits and one furrow. MN3B was a truncated burnt mound, consisting of one pit, two furrows, two deposits and one trough. Analysis of the findings from the excavation will allow a more in-depth discussion for the final report. Radiocarbon dating of select samples will aid in determining the date range for the activities at both areas. However, it is expected that the burnt mound activity will be prehistoric in date, between the Late Neolithic and Iron Age.
