The test excavation of a site in advance of its development at Moyhenna townland, 6.5km east of Castlebar, County Mayo, was carried out on 15 October 2025. The project consisted of an extension to Keelogues graveyard. The testing was necessary due to the size of the site and its location on the edge of the constraint for Keelogues Church (RMP No. MA079-015001), graveyard (RMP No. MA079-015002) and enclosure (RMP No. MA079-015003).

The proposed development site was located at the north-east end of Keelogues graveyard, in a field of pasture, on the summit of a drumlin. The testing consisted of the excavation of seven trenches which measured 30.6m, 15.3m, 30.5m, 30.3m, 41.3m, 29.8m and 16.8m long respectively; 1.8-2.1m wide and 0.2-0.65m deep.

The stratigraphy consisted of topsoil above natural subsoils, i.e. natural and undisturbed. One modern pottery sherd and plastic were found in the topsoil.  Nothing of archaeological significance was in evidence.
