An Archaeological Resolution Strategy Document was devised, detailing locations of archaeological monitoring and inspection (Sutton 2025). Archaeological monitoring was carried out intermittently, as required, between February 2024 and August 2025, in accordance with the Archaeological Resolution Strategy Document and the programme of works.
Nothing of archaeological significance was uncovered with the exception of MA028 Kilsallagh Upper, detailed below:
Archaeological monitoring was undertaken in the lower part of a field, in an Area of Archaeological Potential close to the intersection of the L5880 roadway. A deposit of burnt mound material was identified, measuring approximately 3.5m in length by 3m wide and approximately 0.5–0.6m deep. It was very compact and contained fragments of heat-affected stone throughout.
This burnt mound was subsequently excavated in October 2025 (under the same licence). The results of this excavation will be detailed in a separate report (forthcoming).
