Archaeological test excavation was carried out at the IDA Dundalk, Mullagharlin, Dundalk, Co. Louth. The site is part of an industrial park, and the proposed project involves the construction of new internal roads to facilitate future development. The testing was carried out in response to a request for further information by Louth County Council.

The site is within the Zone of Notification of two monuments listed in the Record of Monuments and Places (RMP) or Sites and Monuments Record (SMR). These monuments are an enclosure (LH012-005001) and a souterrain (LH012-005002). There are no Protected Structures as listed in the Louth County Development Plan 2021-2027 or sites listed in the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage (NIAH) located within the site. The nearest such structure is Mullagharlin House (RPS LHS007-026; NIAH Reg. No. 13900745), located c. 200m to the northeast of the site.

A total of three test trenches were excavated. No archaeological features or deposits were exposed or identified. The proposed development will have no impact. However, it is recommended that a permanent buffer zone be established around the enclosure to ensure its protection during construction. Suitable signage should also be erected on the fencing of the buffer zone, warning that the site is a protected archaeological monument and that no unauthorised works are permitted within the buffer zone.
