| Archaeological testing was undertaken in association with a proposed development (‘Site 13’) located at Ballymakenny Road, Yellowbatter, Drogheda, Co. Louth.
Archaeological testing was carried out over the course of four days from 28 April 2025. A total of 15 trenches were mechanically excavated across the site, measuring 810 linear metres. Testing identified two archaeological areas of significance which have been designated as Archaeological Areas 1-2 (AA1- AA2). These comprise an isolated pit in AA1 and a cluster of features in AA2 with two pits, a linear feature and semi-circular enclosure and a cobbled surface. The origin of both sites is currently unknown as no associated artefacts were recovered at this time, however, the possible ringditch may be prehistoric in date. Evidence of agricultural activity was uncovered in the form of field boundaries, furrows and ceramic pipes. These corresponded to the linear trends identified by the geophysical survey. No archaeology was identified within the proposed construction-phase compound.
