Monitoring of remedial work was carried out at The Tholsel, Carlingford, Co. Louth.

The Tholsel is a Recorded Monument, classified as a Gate (LH005-042009) and a Protected Structure (Lhs005-012), and is listed in the National Inventory of Architectural Heritage (NIAH Reg. No. 13825045).

The archaeological monitoring carried out did not involve any groundworks. Works carried out to date, subject to archaeological monitoring, included the removal of vegetation on the eastern and western gables, northern and southern elevations and the installation of wire mesh set on softwood frames or using the existing steel frames in the windows and openings to stop access by vermin.
