The site at Martinstown Stud, Martinstown, Kilmallock, Co. Limerick, underwent an archaeological assessment; this included test excavations.

The site consists of a grassed field and is in proximity to an archaeological monument, an enclosure (LI048-094—-) located c. 132m to the southwest. Test trenching was recommended to the client to inform the planning process.

Four test trenches were excavated. Each trench measured 1.8m in width, and were excavated to a depth of between 0.3m and 0.65m. Topsoil consisted of brownish-yellow sandy clay with some stones and this was removed onto natural orangey-yellow sandy clay, speckled in places and more clayey at the north-east portion of the site.

No features of archaeological significance were exposed; however, agricultural furrows, modern linear drains and possible former field boundaries were uncovered.
