Archaeological monitoring of groundworks, on behalf of Coady Architects, took place on a site within the historic St Joseph’s Hospital Campus, Limerick (Spital-Land townland) in Spring 2025.
A desk-based assessment conducted in December 2024 (Korfanty 2024) recommended archaeological monitoring during groundworks. Monitoring took place between 1 March and 10 April 2025 in intermittent periods working alongside the construction schedule. The manicured topsoil comprised a dark brown silty clay measured 0.15-0.2m deep. It lay across a mid-brown silty clay.
No features, finds or deposits of archaeological significance were identified during the course of monitoring. No further works are required.
