Uisce Éireann’s Water Network Programme, Drumsna Mains Rehab scheme, is located in County Leitrim. The scheme involved the installation of c.873m of water mains along the existing road network. The installation methods used were horizontal directional drilling and open-cut trenching.
The monitoring followed a high-level Cultural Heritage Screening Assessment (CHSA) undertaken by Archaeological Management Solutions. The CHSA found that the scheme would directly impact the Record of Monuments and Places (RMP) constraints area of LE031-085— (ringfort) and is close to the Zone of Notification of a burial ground (LE031-085002-) situated within the ringfort. The CHSA recommended archaeological monitoring within the RMP constraints area and 20m either side for a total of 115m.
Excavation of a section of continuous open-cut trench totalling c.115m within the RMP constraints area for LE031-085— and 20m either side along the scheme route was archaeologically monitored between 27 February and 5 March 2025.
No potential archaeological objects, features or deposits were found during the monitoring of the scheme.
