An archaeological assessment, including desk-based research, geophysical survey (Leigh 24R0564), metal detection survey and test trenching, was undertaken in advance of a proposed graveyard extension at Curraghs South. The proposed development site is positioned immediately south-west of an existing graveyard (LE020-003002), a ruined church (LE020-003001) and an architectural fragment (LE020-003003). The test trenching found that the geophysical survey anomalies did not correspond with any archaeological features or deposits on the ground. A metal detector was used to scan both trench bases and spoil but no metal artefacts were found. A visual examination of the adjacent 19th-century graveyard wall did not identify worked masonry. In summary, nothing of archaeological significance was identified.
