Archaeological test excavations were carried out on 30 August 2025 in relation to the proposed construction of an extension to the rear of a dwelling at Friary Street, Knocktopher, Co. Kilkenny. The site falls within the archaeological Zone of Notification (Zone ID: R138425) for the historic town of Knocktopher (KK031-017—-).

Testing comprised the excavation of four test trenches which targeted the foundation footprint of the proposed new extension, soakaway location, and the line of a service trench between the extension and the soakaway.

The excavated trenches were 1.5m in width, 5m in length and varied in depth from 0.45–0.51m. The general stratigraphy comprised c. 0.1m of sod overlying c. 0.35-0.4m of dark-brown topsoil, which overlay natural subsoil comprising orange-brown clay.

No archaeological finds, features or deposits were identified in any of the excavated trenches.
