Archaeological test-excavations were carried out on 21 February 2025 as part of an Archaeological Impact Assessment in relation to the proposed construction of four detached residential houses at Stonecarthy East, Stoneyford, Co Kilkenny.

The proposed development site comprises a c. 1.17-hectare agricultural greenfield to the south-west of the Main Street at Stoneyford village. There are no recorded monuments at, or in close proximity of the site, or in the wider village.

Testing comprised the excavation of eleven test-trenches across the site. The test-trench array focused primarily on those areas of the site in which development-related groundworks and construction are to take place under the current application for planning.

The test-trenches measured 1.8m in width and ranged from 30–60m in length, and had a maximum depth ranging from 0.15–0.75m. The test-trenches were excavated by machine using a flat grading bucket to natural levels.

No archaeological finds, features or deposits were identified in any of the excavated test-trenches.
