Assessment at this site involved the excavation of five test trenches totalling 149 linear metres within the footprint of a proposed development. These trenches targeted anomalies identified during an initial geophysical survey carried out under licence 24R0576. Subsoil was exposed in all trenches at varying depths between 0.5-0.7m. The site has been extensively ploughed with plough soil extending to a maximum depth of 0.6m in places and furrows were evident cut into the subsoil. Small brick fragments were recovered across the site mainly within the plough soil. A few sherds of modern 19th-and 20th-century pottery were recovered from the plough soil and from a brick rubble and clay layer beneath it. The anomaly detected during geophysical survey was noted to be a trial hole backfilled with gravel and containing a bagged soil sample. No archaeological features or deposits were exposed or identified. The testing is now complete, and no further archaeological work is required.
