Ten of the lighthouse-era masonry steps near the top of the route up from the North Landing were damaged by a rock slide in the winter and were repaired under archaeological supervision. Examination of the slope above the steps revealed the probable original early-medieval route down from Christ’s Saddle to the North Landing. It initially followed the very top of the scree slope before descending down to the same line as the later route used by the lighthouse personnel.
