It is proposed to further extend an existing operational quarry in Caher West, Kenmare. The site of a castle (KE093-006), demolished in 1969 when extraction commenced, is located within the area of the original quarry. A pre-planning archaeological assessment and test excavation was commissioned by the quarry owners to be included with the planning application to extend the quarry. Six test trenches were excavated across a linear area of pastureland on the north side of the quarry face and no features of archaeological significance were exposed.
