Archaeological testing at Derreen, Co. Kerry, at the north-west limits of Killarney town took place  in mid-February 2025. A series of 20 linear test trenches (T1-T20), extending for c.942m were opened across the site under archaeological supervision. Topsoil (0.2–0.5m in depth) was incrementally removed using a 14-ton track machine with 1.8m flat grading bucket exposing grey to orange gravelly silty sand subsoil. Introduced builders’ material (mainly concrete fragments) was noted in a few of the trenches. Nothing of an archaeological nature was recorded in any of the test trenches and no artefacts were recovered
