Archaeological monitoring was undertaken of topsoil stripping for a single dwelling house at Mannin townland, near Craughwell, Co. Galway (hereafter referred to as the proposed development) on 10 October 2025 in dry but cloudy conditions with occasional sunny spells.
The Zones of Notification for GA104-052—-: Ringfort, GA104-198—-: Ritual site – holy well and GA104-197—-: Castle – tower house are all located adjacent to the subject site.
The stratigraphy was consistent throughout consisting of topsoil and sod to a depth of 200-300mm overlying a mid-brown to yellow loose sandy subsoil with occasional inclusion of small stones and outcrops of bedrock in places. Nothing of archaeological significance was noted.
