Archaeological monitoring took place of topsoil stripping for a single dwelling house at Springlawn, near Mountbellew, Co. Galway. The ZoN for GA046-090—-, a Ritual site – holy well is located in the eastern part of the site boundary. The monitoring was carried out in response to a planning condition.
The stratigraphy was consistent throughout consisting of topsoil and sod to a depth of 200-300mm throughout the site overlying a mid-brown to yellow loose sandy subsoil with occasional inclusion of small stones. Nothing of archaeological significance was noted.
