The author was commissioned to complete an archaeological assessment and archaeological testing of a proposed single dwelling house, wastewater treatment system and associated works in the townland of Caherawoneen South, near Kinvara, Co. Galway.

There is one monument on the Record of Monuments and Places (RMP) in the immediate vicinity of the subject site, GA113-041—-, a ringfort – cashel. There are no sites of architectural significance within or adjoining the subject site.

A request for further information requested an archaeological impact assessment be completed and that it should include a programme of Archaeological Test Excavation.

A programme of archaeological testing of the proposed development was carried out in dry and bright conditions on 27 February 2025. The stratigraphy encountered was consistent throughout the site and comprised topsoil and sod up to 400mm in depth throughout. This overlays a mid-brown to white sandy natural subsoil which was present throughout the site. Outcrops of limestone bedrock were observed in parts.

Nothing of archaeological significance was noted.
