The site is located across two fields in Oldcourt townland and a small area of a field in adjacent Bohernabreena townland in South Dublin County. Three fields to the west of the Ballycullen Gate development were partially stripped of topsoil in advance of preparation works for a new residential development. The fields are on the north-facing side of a hill with a moderate incline to the south. They are bounded by mature hedgerows that are being preserved.

A trench for a new watermain was excavated across all three fields alongside the existing watermain. The trench runs from west to east at the northern, lower elevation of the fields.

Agricultural linear features running east-west and north-south were present in all three fields. These consist of field drains, field boundary ditches and plough furrows. These features were tested and found to be modern in date, containing glass and ceramics of post-1750 date.

Archaeology revealed beneath the topsoil consists of two structures, several charcoal-production pits, post-hole clusters, isolated pits and isolated post-holes. The radiocarbon dates have not returned yet, but the features contained jet/lignite bangle fragments, an amber bead, struck flint, copper alloy and slag. The features are thought to date to the prehistoric period and early medieval period.

The license was transferred to ABH at the end of 2025.
