Archaeological monitoring was carried out for Aidan Tully from TRIUR Construction Limited, 13 Society Street, Ballinasloe, Co. Galway. The monitoring was a required condition associated with this development. Monitoring commenced on 13May 2025 and continued as required until 15 July 2025.
The monitoring and excavations of the promenade areas did not reveal any archaeology or artefacts associated with the battle of Clontarf. The earliest feature revealed was the truncated remains of the limestone sea wall constructed in the late 19th/early 20th century. Most of the wall was removed in the 20th century during the insertion of the various services in Area 1. Area 2 contained lots of 20th-century dumped material and had been disturbed for the construction of the precast concrete culvert outflow pipes.
