Testing took place at 29a-31 Prussia Street in April 2025 to identify the extent of 18th-century (and potentially earlier) archaeological remains prior to construction.
It was expected that basements and/or cellars of demolished 18th- and 19th-century houses might survive within the site, however these were not encountered within the test trenches. Surviving 18th-century and later walls within the site were heavily truncated and of limited archaeological interest. The only area of archaeological potential was a pit sealed by an 18th-century wall in the southwest of the site, which contained one possible 17th-century drinking glass fragment. Archaeological excavation of the western third of the site was recommended.
