Archaeological monitoring was conducted from 21/03/2025 to 06/05/25 on Cork Hill and Castle Street, Dublin 2, during Public Realm Works by Dublin City Council. Excavation revealed modern and historic ground disturbance, with extensive existing utilities throughout the area. Structural remains of a red-brick coal cellar were uncovered on Cork Hill and were likely associated with an earlier building predating the construction of the Newcomen Bank in 1781. A mortared limestone wall was identified at the eastern end of Castle Street. Cartographic evidence suggests that this wall was likely associated with a structure on the southern side of Castle Street which pre-dated a 1787 map of Dublin City. All remains were preserved in situ.
