Archaeological testing was carried out in a greenfield location to the east of an existing pharmaceutical facility in Damastown Industrial Park, Dublin 15 in advance of the installation of solar panels within the facility campus.

There was no specific condition related to archaeology in the planning permission, however a previous archaeological assessment submitted with the planning application recommended geophysical survey and/or test trenching to be carried out. Based on a site inspection which found spoilheaps in several locations and the ground quite rough underfoot, it was deemed that archaeological testing would be more appropriate in this case.

The testing took place over three days in June 2025 and no features, finds or deposits of archaeological interest were identified.

Based on no archaeological remains being identified in the trenches, and the limited extent of ground disturbance works required for the installation of the solar arrays, which will comprise cable trenches averaging 0.4m wide and 0.9m deep and C-shaped piles 0.15m in diameter being driven into the ground to support the solar panels, it is deemed unlikely that the groundworks would impact on any potential archaeological remains. As such, no further archaeological mitigation measures were recommended.
