A programme of archaeological testing consisting of four linear trenches with a combined length of 140m was undertaken at the site to inform any potential impacts on unrecorded subsurface archaeological features associated with a proposed housing development. The site was previously occupied by the Errigal View Hotel, now demolished, which was situated within the eastern portion of the proposed development area. Analysis of aerial imagery dated from between 2001 and 2005, together with a site inspection, indicated that a significant part of the field had been subject to prior development, with remnants of former foundation or hardstands remaining partially visible.

Overall, the trenches contained much modern refuse (including glass, plastic, and other waste) together with construction debris, most likely associated with the demolished hotel. Occasional ground disturbances were noted, including decommissioned service pipes and the remains of previous geological trial pits.

No archaeological features, deposits, or finds were identified during the evaluation.
